The Chromecast with Google TV, in its 4K and HD versions, and the Google TV Streamer run Google TV, on versions of Android well above the 8.0 Lumen·TV needs. It installs from this site with Downloader; on Google TV, developer mode has to be on first, and the steps below say where.

Which Chromecast.
The Chromecast with Google TV, 4K or HD, and the Google TV Streamer come with a remote and a home screen of their own: they install apps, Lumen·TV among them. The earlier Chromecasts, which only play what a phone casts to them, have no apps and cannot install it.
The Google TV remote.
The Chromecast and Google TV Streamer remotes have no number keys and no channel keys. On a live channel full screen, the keys they do have do this:
- ↑ ↓
- The channel above or below, in the order of the list.
- ←
- The channel list, over the picture, while the channel keeps playing.
- →
- Quick settings for the channel you are watching.
- OK
- The controls over the picture, with pause and the audio and subtitle choices.
- Play/pause, rewind, fast-forward
- Pause and resume, or move 30 seconds back or forward, where the stream allows it.
With no number or channel keys, ↑ ↓ change channel and search finds one by name. A remote with those keys, paired to the same device, works too: Lumen·TV reads them from any remote. In a right-to-left language such as Arabic, ← and → swap, with the layout.
Before you pay.
Lumen·TV is built for Android TV, and Google TV is Android TV with another home screen. Use the 21-day trial to check it on yours with your own playlist: it starts the first time you open the app, needs no card and ends by itself.
How to install Lumen·TV on a Chromecast or a Google TV Streamer
Both use the Google TV menus. Six steps, with the remote, and no computer. Lumen·TV then appears among your apps on the home screen.
- Check the version in Settings → System → About: Android TV OS 8.0 or later.
- Install Downloader by AFTVnews from Google Play on the device.
- Turn on developer mode: in Settings → System → About, select Android TV OS build seven times, until the TV says you are a developer.
- Let Downloader install apps: Settings → Apps → Security & restrictions → Unknown sources, then switch on Downloader.
- Open Downloader, enter 8581959 and select Go.
- Select Install, then open Lumen·TV. The free trial starts there.
Good to know.
Which IPTV player works on Chromecast with Google TV?
Lumen·TV installs on the Chromecast with Google TV and the Google TV Streamer, from this site with the Downloader app and the code 8581959, and plays M3U and Xtream Codes playlists. A Chromecast you only cast to from a phone has no apps and cannot install it. Use the 21-day trial to check it on yours.
Does it work on a Chromecast I cast to from my phone?
No. The Chromecasts without a remote have no apps of their own. Lumen·TV needs a device that runs Google TV or Android TV, such as the Chromecast with Google TV or the Google TV Streamer, and it runs on the device itself.
Why does Google TV need developer mode?
On Google TV, the setting that lets Downloader install apps, Unknown sources, appears only once developer mode is on. Every app installed from outside Google Play goes through the same setting.
Is Lumen·TV on Google Play?
Not as a public listing today. You install it from this site, and from version 1.0.905 a copy installed this way looks for a newer version here itself and offers to install it.
Do I need a computer or a USB stick?
No. Downloader fetches the file on the device itself, from lumentv.app/apk, and a copy installed this way looks for a newer version here and offers to install it.
Does Lumen·TV include channels?
No. It is a player. You add the playlist your provider gave you, and you need the rights to what you watch.
How much does Lumen·TV cost?
21 days free, then €0.99 a month for one device, or €19.99 once for 2 devices, or €29.99 once for 5. The trial needs no card and ends by itself.
What a licence does not cover.
-
No catch-up or replay
A deliberate exclusion, not an oversight. It depends entirely on archive endpoints many providers do not expose, and selling something your provider may not support is worse than not having it.
-
One guide source per playlist
Enough for most households. Several sources merged into one guide, guide reminders, descriptions inside the timeline and a guide time offset are not part of the app.
