Every feature, in detail

Which SHIELD.

SHIELD Experience 9.0, released in January 2022, brought Android 11 to every SHIELD TV model: the 2019 SHIELD TV and SHIELD TV Pro, the 2017 SHIELD TV, and the 2015 SHIELD TV and SHIELD TV Pro. A SHIELD that still says Android 9 needs its software update first, then installs Lumen·TV like any other.

The SHIELD remote.

The SHIELD remote has no number keys and no channel keys. On a live channel full screen, the keys it does have do this:

↑ ↓
The channel above or below, in the order of the list.
←
The channel list, over the picture, while the channel keeps playing.
→
Quick settings for the channel you are watching.
OK
The controls over the picture, with pause and the audio and subtitle choices.
Play/pause, rewind, fast-forward
Pause and resume, or move 30 seconds back or forward, where the stream allows it.

With no number or channel keys, ↑ ↓ change channel and search finds one by name. A remote with those keys, paired to the same device, works too: Lumen·TV reads them from any remote. In a right-to-left language such as Arabic, ← and → swap, with the layout.

Before you pay.

Lumen·TV is built for Android TV, which is what the SHIELD runs. Use the 21-day trial to check it on yours with your own playlist: it starts the first time you open the app, needs no card and ends by itself.

How to install Lumen·TV on a SHIELD TV

The SHIELD uses the Android TV menus. Five steps, with the remote, and no computer.

  1. Check the version in Settings → Device Preferences → About → Version: Android 8.0 or later.
  2. Install Downloader by AFTVnews from Google Play on the device.
  3. Let it install apps: Settings → Device Preferences → Security & restrictions → Unknown sources, then switch on Downloader.
  4. Open Downloader, enter 8581959 and select Go.
  5. Select Install, then open Lumen·TV. The free trial starts there.

Good to know.

Which IPTV player works on NVIDIA SHIELD?

Lumen·TV installs on every NVIDIA SHIELD TV model, from this site with the Downloader app and the code 8581959: it needs Android 8.0 or later, and every SHIELD TV runs Android 11 once it has SHIELD Experience 9. It plays M3U and Xtream Codes playlists. Use the 21-day trial to check it on yours.

Does it run on the 2015 SHIELD TV?

Yes, once it has SHIELD Experience 9 or later, which is Android 11. Lumen·TV needs Android 8.0 or later, and every SHIELD TV model can be updated past that.

Is Lumen·TV on Google Play?

Not as a public listing today. You install it from this site, and from version 1.0.905 a copy installed this way looks for a newer version here itself and offers to install it.

Do I need a computer or a USB stick?

No. Downloader fetches the file on the device itself, from lumentv.app/apk, and a copy installed this way looks for a newer version here and offers to install it.

Does Lumen·TV include channels?

No. It is a player. You add the playlist your provider gave you, and you need the rights to what you watch.

How much does Lumen·TV cost?

21 days free, then €0.99 a month for one device, or €19.99 once for 2 devices, or €29.99 once for 5. The trial needs no card and ends by itself.

What a licence does not cover.

  • No catch-up or replay

A deliberate exclusion, not an oversight. It depends entirely on archive endpoints many providers do not expose, and selling something your provider may not support is worse than not having it.

  • One guide source per playlist

Enough for most households. Several sources merged into one guide, guide reminders, descriptions inside the timeline and a guide time offset are not part of the app.
