Lumen·TV 1.0.1105: less waiting on your television

The television app starts sooner, waits less between channels and comes back from what you were watching sooner, and Home has less to draw as you move along it. An address with a typing slip is now offered corrected before it is sent.

What changed.

  • Home sooner after you open the app

The television app now reads your playlists, your catalogue and Home’s first pictures while its opening screen is still showing, and ends that screen as soon as Home is ready instead of after two sweeps of its loader. On the Android TV set we measure on, Home is there in about two seconds, where it took three and a half. Home is no longer worked out again a few seconds after it appears, which used to change it under the remote.

  • Less waiting between channels

Changing channel keeps the video decoder from one channel to the next instead of starting it again, and a channel number you type opens without a second wait. On the set we measure on, the next channel shows in under a second, where it took about a second and a half.

  • Back from what you watch

Back from a channel now shows Home at once: Home stays ready behind the picture, already on the card you were watching, and the stream stops just after Home is drawn. The television no longer freezes its whole screen for a moment as you leave a channel, because the app keeps its video decoder until you leave the app or open multi-view, and moves one picture between full screen, Live TV’s preview and the guide. Back from a film or an episode also shows Home sooner: the player is no longer built again as the film stops.

  • Less to draw on Home

Home draws less at each frame: the large picture at the top is drawn once while it stands still, which leaves less to draw at each step along the rows. Live TV’s groups are read from their names wherever a name is enough, which makes Home ready sooner with a large playlist.

  • All films and All series: back to ☰

Closing the index of All films or All series gives the remote back to the ☰ key that opened it. It used to land on a button in the header.

  • An address with a typing slip

When a playlist address has its port stuck to the name, as in example.com8080, or a comma where a dot belongs, the television app and the phone app now show the corrected address under the field, with Correct the address, before anything is sent. Nothing is changed without you. And when the name in an address cannot be found, the app says so instead of blaming the provider.

On phones and tablets
The app for phones and tablets is published at the same version. It shares part of this work: the address offered corrected, the name that cannot be found and the catalogue read sooner at the start. None of it has been measured on a phone; the rest is the television app’s.

The apps it concerns.

  • Android TV, Google TV and Fire TV: version 1.0.1105
  • Android phones and tablets: version 1.0.1105
