Lumen·TV 1.0.970: playlists whose https address fails
Many providers publish an https address that fails, with a certificate the device refuses or no https at all, while the same address works over http. From this version the app tries http once by itself, remembers it, and says so on the playlist.
What changed.
-
http, once, when https fails
When a request to your provider’s https address fails before the provider answers at all, the app asks the same address once over http: the same server, port, path and login. The channel list, the TV guide, films and series are asked this way, and streams and pictures from that server follow.
-
Remembered, and https tried again every week
Once https has clearly failed on a server and http has worked there, the app goes to that server over http directly, and tries https again once a week: a provider that fixes its certificate is back on https without you doing anything.
-
Said on the playlist
In Settings → Playlists, a playlist that runs over http for this reason says “Connected without encryption (https failed)”. On a phone or tablet, the same line is under the playlist.
-
Never when the provider has answered
An error the provider sends over https, such as a wrong password or an address that does not exist, is its answer, and nothing is asked again over http. Lumen·TV’s own servers are never asked over http.
-
A clearer message when nothing answers
When neither https nor http answers, the app says “Nothing answered at that address, over https or over http. Check the address and the network connection, then try again.” It no longer suggests trying http yourself.
- What http means
- Over http, what the app sends to your provider, your login included, is not encrypted, exactly as with a playlist address that starts with http://. None of it reaches our servers.
