Buffering · freezing

IPTV keeps buffering? What to check.

A picture that stops, spins or freezes comes from one of three places: one channel, your provider’s server, or the connection in your home. A few checks tell them apart. Lumen·TV cannot make a server faster or a Wi-Fi signal stronger, but it does what a player can.

What to check, in order.

  1. One channel, or all of them? If one channel fails and the others play, that channel is down at your provider. Nothing on the TV can fix it; try it again later.
  2. Is someone else watching? Most subscriptions allow a set number of connections at once. Another TV or phone on the same login uses one, each multi-view tile uses one, and the provider may cut or refuse the next.
  3. Is the network steady? A cable to the TV is steadier than Wi-Fi. On Wi-Fi, bring the router and the TV closer or use the router’s 5 GHz network, and restart the router and the TV once.
  4. Give the player a bigger cushion. In Settings → Playback, choose Stable: furthest behind live, largest cushion, best on weak Wi-Fi. Balanced is where it starts; Responsive is closest to live and best on a cable.
  5. Does it buffer elsewhere too? Play the same channel on a phone or a computer on the same connection. If it stutters there as well, the cause is the provider or the line, not the TV.
  6. Does it depend on the time of day? Buffering that comes every evening and goes later is usually the provider’s servers under load. Tell your provider, with the times.
  7. Still stuck? Write to support@lumentv.app with the TV’s make and model, whether you use M3U or Xtream Codes, and what the screen says.

What Lumen·TV does by itself.

It reconnects
When a stream drops on a network error, the app reconnects on its own, up to three times, and says so on the screen.
It waits before it reopens
A frozen picture is reopened when nothing has arrived for six seconds. While data is still arriving the app waits instead, so it keeps what is buffered and the one connection your provider may allow.
Films and episodes get a fresh connection
When the buffer of a film or an episode keeps running down, the app opens a fresh connection to the provider, at least five minutes after the last one and never more than eight times in an hour.
It says whose fault it is
When a stream stops for good, the screen says whether the provider is not answering, the TV is offline, or the stream is in a form this TV cannot decode. Where it can help, it offers to try again or, on a live channel, to go to the next one.
